Spring 2016 I was commissioned by Marvin Anderson, a Rondo Community Elder, Leader, and Resident to create a Rondo Community Poster to commemorate the forthcoming Rondo Plaza.
Rondo is a Historically Black community located in the heart of St. Paul, MN. It was decimated in the 1960's due to redlining/ highway 94 barreling right through the center of it, a tactic used throughout the nation to stifle thriving black communities.
I went through several incarnations of the map, my favorite (an abstract, jazz influence, representation of the area) being ultimately discarded in favor of something more illustrative.
It was a crazy rushed deadline. I wish I could've sat with it longer because it could've been 135 times cooler, but hey. I'm happy to be a part of Rondo History.
