About this Project
Client: Hmong American Partnership (HAP)
Creative Field: Illustration, Graphic Design
Tools: Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop
Last year while visiting my partner in California I came across a contest organized by the Hmong American Partnership (HAP) in my hometown (Frogtown, St. Paul). I had a feeling I'd win if I entered so I sat down for 10-15 hours and banged it out.
Frogtown has the largest East Asian population in the state of MN. I'm talking 60% of the population. The goal of the contest was to 1. pay homage to this community and their impact on the community and 2. to shed light on the issues within our community that revolve around Fair Housing and bullshit ass landlords taking advantage of our most vulnerable populations.
I'm guessing my piece won because not only does it show the diversity of the SE Asian population in Frogtown, but it legitimately LOOKS like Frogtown -- which was really my only goal.
