Name’s Daz. I’m a freelance designer, illustrator, and writer from Saint Paul, MN currently residing in Belgrade, Serbia. I’ve been freelancing for the past five years.
I graduated with honors—because in some version of this universe that matters—from Augsburg College in 2010 with a BFA in Creative Writing (focusing on screenwriting and poetry). I almost snuck away with a minor in film and marketing as well as a certificate in graphic design, butchya know.. the way my financial aid was set up.. mrehh.
My interests and skills being diverse, after graduating from college, much like er’body else born after 1985, I struggled to find my way.. forming deep-emotional bonds with anxiety, existential dread, 211— the finest of malt liquor, and ramen noodles due to my overall lack of guidance and resources.
I stumbled around a bit. Spent time as a proofreader, camp counselor, youth worker, educator (english and theater), stoner, alcoholic.. wrote a feature length script or two, a web series, started and stopped a mildly successful blog, had poems and essays published, became a rapper, started doodling.. read books on comedy writing, advertising, copywriting, urban planning, design, sociology, anthropology, spirituality, power, and everything in between.. learned some software.. adobe illustrator, photoshop, inDesign, after effects, clip studio paint.. moved from MN to Los Angeles, to MN, to Los Angeles, to MN, to Guatemala, Mexico, Paris, and now Serbia, where I'll be chillin' awhile.
All in search of experience, joy, THRILL, story, and understanding.. really, in search of self more than anything else.
And throughout this process of self discovery I had the pleasure of working with a smorgasbord of awesome clients.
Through these opportunities I was able to hone talents, learn new skills, gain experience. Lead. Direct. Strategize. Consult. And be wildly creative, which of course, is always my ultimate goal.
With the completion of two of the biggest and most substantial projects ever asked of me, via commissions from the Frogtown Neighborhood Association and the City of Saint Paul, 2017 marked a turning point in my career, I'm looking to build upon that success in 2018 in a major way by not only seeking bigger clients and more involved projects, but by also completing--not just starting--but COMPLETING projects of my own, and diving fully into uncharted areas of interest like fashion design and styling.
Excited really isn't the word.
That said, if you'd like to work with me in any capacity, drop me a line. I'm sure we can work something out.
